Hi guys, welcome back to the podcast, over the last few episodes we have discussed how to face and overcome both the inner and outer critics, as well as taking a look at how emotions can be used to fuel the fires of our success.
Today, I want to look at another factor that, if left unchecked, will only cause to be a hindrance, not a help, when connecting with your Authentic Self, raising your vibrational frequency and master living your extraordinary life, and that is a limiting belief.
What Is a Limiting Belief
So, what is a limiting belief?
A limiting belief is something that you believe is true for you, that limits you in some shape or form.
This limiting belief can be about you, but it can also be about other people as well.
It is the story we tell ourselves, that reinforces our view on our lives and the people in them.
Some examples of a limiting belief could be:
- I’m too old
- I’m too young
- I have two left feet
- I don’t have the qualifications
- I don’t deserve it
- I’m not smart enough
- I’m not attractive enough
- I don’t have the will power
- I don’t have the resources
- I don’t have the money
- If I try I will fail
- I’ve already tried everything
- You need to have money to make money
- I can’t draw
- I’m no good at writing
- I can’t
- I’m not able
- I don’t know how
Unfortunately, the type of stories we habitually tell ourselves can be endless, if you have ever thought any of these statements, then you have been practicing your own version of a limiting belief.
The Truth
But here’s the thing, if you take nothing else from todays episode, I whole heartedly encourage you to allow this one single piece of information to sink in, and sink into your core, as this will change your life and set you free.
The Only Limitations You Have Are the Limits You Set Yourself
I’ll say that again – the only limitations you have are the limits you set yourself.
You see, it really doesn’t matter what other people say or think, it is what you believe you can achieve that matters.
If you think you are too old, too young, don’t have the resources, or you have tried everything, then you are absolutely right.
If you think that you are old enough, you have all the resources you need, and that there is always another way, then you are absolutely right!
For better or for worse, the story you tell yourself will be your truth.
Recognising A Limiting Belief
Before you can change your limiting belief, you need to begin the process of recognising a limiting belief when it rears its head.
To do that you simply need:
- To be present with yourself. Beware of what you are thinking, and feeling
- Question your thoughts – Are your thoughts and feelings empowering or disempowering? Are they imposing a limit on how you proceed, or are they open and enabling?
- Finally, tweak the story – if you are experiencing a limiting belief, you need to consciously and actively tweak this belief so instead of holding you back, it becomes your very own Power Statement, a statement that is both positive and empowering.
How to Change Your Story
To give you an idea as to how to change a limiting belief into your very own power statement, let’s have a look at five of the limiting statements already mentioned in this episode, and turn them from limiting, to limitless.
I don’t deserve it – I am worthy, and I deserve this
I’m not attractive enough – I know my worth and I know that I am amazing on the inside and the outside
I’ve already tried everything – There is always another way forward
I’m not able – I am absolutely capable of doing this
I don’t know how – I know enough to get started and have all the resources I need to learn and gain any additional knowledge needed to move forward
The Mirror Exercise
Changing your limiting statement is only one side of the equation though.
It is one thing the consciously change your statement, it is a whole different thing to truly take your new statement on board and believe it and believe in yourself.
To truly believe in your new statement, practice repeating your new statement in the mirror.
Repeat your power statement three times, three times a day, when you wake up, around midday and finally when you go to bed.
Once you have begun to take your new power statement on board, you can drop this down to twice a day, and then once a day until this new belief, has become well and truly limitless.
